Tips on Conserving Electricity

Tips on Conserving Electricity at Christmas | Annabelle Brasnell | Host: Kandace Jackson

During the Christmas season, many people decorate their houses with lights, which consume more electricity than other times of the year. Corporate Communications Manager at T&TEC, Annabelle Brasnell, shared tips on conserving electricity during the holiday season, advising individuals to opt for LED lights rather than traditional ones.

Brasnell also recommended that people monitor and manage the usage of their lights. “So, while you are consuming less electricity with LEDs, you don’t need to have those lights running if they are not necessary. So perhaps during the night when you going to sleep, instead of providing lights for the entire neighbourhood, or just leaving the lights burning inside the house, we recommend that you turn off those lights before you go to sleep“. If individuals forget to turn off their lights, Brasnell recommended using smart outlets, as a solution.

She also recommended that people consider using power strips to plug in their lights, allowing them to turn off the power switch and not worry about forgetting to turn their lights off.

Addressing the increased usage of appliances during the season, Brasnell acknowledged that many people utilize gas tanks for cooking. She provided recommendations for individuals who use electrical stoves, especially when preparing food such as black cake, ham, and more.

You plan your cooking accordingly so that you can retain the heat in that appliance and as you take out, you put in another one so that you don’t have to keep turning it on, reheating it and therefore utlizing more electricity in your oven.” Brasnell also advised planning for household chores that involve using electrical appliances in a way that maximizes electricity usage.
