THTA meeting with counselor Burris

On Tuesday, October 1st, 2024, the Tobago Hotel and Tourism Association (THTA) held a meeting with Councilor Tashia Burris, Secretary of Tourism, Culture, Antiquities, and Transportation, at the Mount Irvine Resort. The session focused on the state of Tobago’s tourism industry, with much of the discussion framed around the recently presented 2025 National budget. Key areas of focus included developing cruise tourism, improving the quality of the island’s room stock, and advancing training opportunities through the Tobago Hotel and Tourism Institute. Airlift was also a critical point of discussion. Both parties agreed to develop a collaborative working plan to enhance the quality of Tobago’s tourism product and create more opportunities for stakeholders. Alpha Lorde, President of the THTA, highlighted the significance of the meeting, stating, “This has truly been a successful meeting of the minds of the key stakeholders of Tobago’s tourism product on charting the way forward for the island of Tobago.” Despite the lack of financial support from Central Government and ongoing challenges with Caribbean Airlines, the THTA remains committed to developing Tobago with the resources at hand. Lorde further expressed optimism, commending Secretary Burris for her commitment to assisting where possible. The meeting concluded with Councilor Burris reaffirming her commitment to advocating for all stakeholders in the industry.
