The TTPS Warns Against Social Media Meetups

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service warns the public against the danger of online meet-ups. They shared that they have seen an uprise in crimes committed against persons who use social media dating apps to meet new people.

The TTPS shared that criminals have been utilizing social media to commit crimes, increasing their use of dating apps. Crimes such as theft, assault, and other violent acts are being committed. They advised the public to take precautions sharing some guidelines when meeting persons through dating apps.

These guidelines are, being aware of fake profiles, verifying their identity, being careful where you meet with persons, they advised meeting in public places, using your own transportation, staying sober and alert, trusting your instincts and keeping personal information private. The TTPS noted that by exercising these precautions, persons can protect themselves and reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime through dating apps.
