THA, WASA, and Central Government Collaborate to Improve Tobago’s Water Services

August 20, 2025 – Tobago could soon see major improvements in its water infrastructure, with plans for a new desalination plant in Charlotteville forming part of a wider strategy to enhance water and wastewater services across the island.

The proposed project was a central point of discussion during a recent meeting between Chief Secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) Farley Augustine, Assistant Secretary in the Division of Settlements, Public Utilities and Rural Development Orlando Kerr, Minister in the Ministry of Public Utilities Clyde Elder, and senior officials from the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA).

Talks focused on strengthening the reliability of the island’s water supply, upgrading existing infrastructure, and pursuing long-term, sustainable solutions to improve Tobago’s water security.

Earlier in the day, Minister Elder and Parliamentary Secretary Shivanna Sam paid a courtesy call on Chief Secretary Augustine, as part of ongoing collaboration between the THA and central government since the installation of the new Cabinet.
