THA Finance Secretary Clarifies Tobago’s Budget Request Amid Public Debate
October 1, 2025- What is Tobago’s actual request for its budget allocation in fiscal 2025–2026? That’s the question many Tobagonians are asking following the recent meeting between Secretary of Finance, Trade and the Economy, Petal-Ann Roberts, and Minister of Finance, Davendranath Tancoo.
Roberts had previously stated that Tobago’s official request stood at 5.9 per cent of the national budget. However, fresh debate has surfaced after she said her comments were misinterpreted, noting that Tobago will accept nothing less than 5 per cent.
The clarification has sparked further discussion on the island about what percentage will ultimately be granted and whether the allocation will adequately support Tobago’s developmental needs.
