Today, September 30, marks the deadline set by the High Court and Industrial Court in a landmark ruling against the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) regarding the Community Partnership Unit.
The courts ordered the THA to pay a total of $4 million to 13 dismissed contract workers. However, Minority Leader Kelvon Morris reported that the payments have not yet been made.
Morris also highlighted concerns over a recent Executive Council motion that awarded former Assembly members millions of dollars, including eligibility for pensions after just one term, even though many had already received gratuities. These former members are now entitled to at least 40% of their highest salary for life.
Describing the situation as “unjust, vindictive, and shameful,” Morris urged the THA to end the double standards and ensure the affected workers receive their rightful compensation without further delay.
