Land acquisition challenges and design changes contributed to delays in construction of new airport terminal.
The COVID-19 pandemic was not the only reason for delays in constructing the new terminal at the ANR Robinson International Airport. At a recent press conference, Finance Minister Colm Imbert explained that land acquisition challenges, compounded by the involvement of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA), also caused delays and increased costs. Imbert noted that several residents had not reached compensation agreements with the state before construction could begin. The THA administration supported the residents in challenging the compensation packages offered. Each day of delay in construction was estimated to cost the project between $5 and $10 million in losses.
