The Tobago Regional Health Authority (TRHA) recently held its Staff Recognition Awards ceremony, a significant event designed to honor Tobago’s rich history of harnessing power in healthcare. The ceremony likely took place in a post-pandemic context, celebrating the dedication of healthcare workers after the intense two-year period of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. Faith B. Yisrael, Secretary for Health, Wellness, and Social Protection, emphasized the overarching goal of TRHA personnel: to meticulously assess the general health of every individual who visits their facilities. She underscored the critical role played by every member of the healthcare system in Tobago, regardless of their specific position.
According to Dr. B. Yisrael, Tobago’s legacy in healthcare began as early as the 1800s with the introduction of modern medicine to the island. She explained that the award ceremony served as a powerful testament to the TRHA’s strength in maintaining Tobago’s healthcare framework throughout the challenging two-year COVID-19 pandemic.
Chief Secretary Farley Augustine also addressed the event, highlighting the unique strength of the TRHA as “one of the greatest healthcare systems in the region” due to its provision of free medical treatment to all residents and guests. He commended the TRHA’s successful response to the unprecedented challenge of COVID-19, acknowledging that the organization adapted effectively despite the novel situation and initial lack of knowledge about the virus.
