Licensing Delay Threatens Studley Park Quarry’s Success
January 9, 2025 – In a year-in-review interview, Secretary of the Division of Infrastructure, Quarries, and Urban Development, Trevor James, stated that the Studley Park Quarry was not operating at its full potential when he took office. He noted that a primary objective for the enterprise was to maximize profits while minimizing operational costs. According to James, the quarry, which produces some of the highest-quality construction materials in the region, has been instrumental in the success of major road infrastructure projects on the island. This has driven up demand and significantly boosted profits. The Secretary also pointed out that countries like Guyana have already reached out, requesting supplies.
However, James said a major problem encountered by Studley Park Enterprise Limited (SPEL) was the non-issuance of a license by the Central Government. He noted that he’s prepared to take the matter to court to resolve the issue.
