Renowned musician, saxophonist, and cultural icon Roy Francis Cape has passed away. His daughter Jo-Anne Cape-Julien confirmed the news on Thursday, 5th September. He was 82. With a career spanning over five decades, Cape made significant contributions to the music industry, appearing on hundreds of recordings and collaborating with legendary figures such as The Mighty Sparrow, the late Lord Kitchener, Black Stalin, and Blaxx. His passing has prompted an outpouring of tributes from the music community and beyond, celebrating his profound impact on the nation’s musical heritage. In recognition of his contributions, Cape was awarded the Hummingbird Medal (Gold) in 2004, and in 2011, he received an honorary doctorate from the University of the West Indies. Dr. Cape had been battling prostate cancer for many years.
