March 27, 2025 – Prime Minister Stuart Young traveled to Kingston, Jamaica, on Wednesday for bilateral talks with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Speaking at a post-cabinet press briefing earlier this evening, Prime Minister Young confirmed that Trinidad and Tobago will proceed with the Dragon Gas Deal following discussions with Secretary Rubio on its strategic importance. Although the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) license is set to expire in October, Young noted that discussions on the matter are ongoing. He also reaffirmed that Secretary Rubio assured Trinidad and Tobago would not be adversely affected. Young also stated that, despite ongoing discussions with the U.S., the Trinidad and Tobago government continues to engage with the Maduro-led administration in Venezuela.
