Presiding Officer Disappointed

PRESIDING OFFICER DISAPPOINTED

The Minority Council anticipated receiving answers to all the questions listed on the order paper for the 22nd Sitting of the Assembly Legislature, but they were left disappointed. While the Presiding Officer agreed to the deferral, Minority Leader Kelvon Morris was not willing to accept it.

Another request for a deferral was made when the Secretary of Tourism, Culture, Antiquities, and Transportation, Tashia Burris, was questioned about the budget for Tobago Carnival, scheduled for the last weekend in October. Councillor Burris agreed to provide the answer in writing within a week’s time. However, Minority Councillor Petal Daniel-Beniot raised concerns.

When another question was posed, a request for a deferral occurred once more. At this point, the Presiding Officer deemed the response to be unacceptable. Taylor cautioned the House against making requests for deferrals in future sittings.
