During today’s parliamentary discussion on the extension of the State of Emergency, the prominent display of white corsages on the attire of both ruling and opposition members served as a poignant reminder of the absence of their colleague, the late Lisa Morris-Julian. Before the debate commenced, members paid tribute to Morris-Julian, whose empty seat was adorned with a bouquet of white and red roses. Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley again reflected on her tireless work ethic and invaluable contributions, describing her as a light and beacon to the people, always standing firm on principle. Opposition MP for Point-a-Pierre, David Lee, expressed that although Morris-Julian sat on the other side of the aisle, she was a distinguished colleague. The Speaker of the House acknowledged Lisa Morris-Julian’s deep commitment to her roots within the First Peoples’ community, recognising her active participation in every event. She offered heartfelt condolences, paying tribute to the many roles Morris-Julien embraced throughout her lifetime, highlighting her remarkable contributions and unwavering dedication. Following the tributes, all members observed a moment of silence to honour and celebrate the life of their esteemed colleague.
