January 13, 2025 – Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar has fiercely criticised the People’s National Movement (PNM) over endorsing Stuart Young to succeed Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley. Labelling the process a “chaotic soap opera,” Persad-Bissessar claims it exposes deep fractures within the ruling party.
According to the Opposition Leader, Dr. Rowley’s decision to call a special meeting to secure Young’s coronation highlights the government’s collapse under internal power struggles. The political leader of the UNC further described the PNM’s leadership transition as a “vulgar charade” that neglects pressing national crises, including crime, economic instability, and soaring living costs. Persad-Bissessar contends that Rowley’s attempt to impose Young, or any successor, cannot address the challenges created by what they describe as a decade of mismanagement by the PNM. The opposition vowed to deliver stable governance and restore prosperity, urging citizens to reject the PNM in the next general election.
