Oil spill impact of reef remain unassessed

Chief Secretary Farley Augustine says the impact of the oil spill on the reef near cove remains unknown because they lack money to fund it.

The impact of the Gulfstream oil spill on the reef near Cove remains uncertain. Chief Secretary Farley Augustine acknowledged that assessing the damage would be a costly undertaking, and funds have not yet been allocated for the effort. On February 7th, a capsized barge carrying bunker fuel drifted onto the reef near Cove, causing an oil spill that contaminated 15 kilometers of coastline between Scarborough and Canoe Bay. Although the vessel was removed in August, debris still litters the reef.
