Opposition senator wade mark accuses government of not setting up fair systems to contest property valuations
August 12, 2024 – Citizens who have received property valuations have until August 16th to pay their property tax. The Board of Inland Revenue (BIR) hopes to dispatch all remaining property valuations in time for payments to be made by the recently extended deadline. However, the Opposition continues to raise concerns about the valuations.
Opposition Senator Wade Mark stated that although the Property Tax Act allows citizens to contest valuations, he does not believe the process will be handled fairly. His comments highlight a significant point of contention and public anxiety surrounding the implementation of the property tax in Trinidad and Tobago.
