Minority Leader Presses Tourism Secretary for Proof of “Thriving” Sector
September 2, 2025 – Minority Leader of the Tobago House of Assembly, Kelvon Morris, is calling on Tourism Secretary Tashia Burris to provide concrete data to support her recent statement that Tobago’s tourism sector is “thriving.”
In a social media post on Monday, Morris criticized the Secretary’s remarks as unsubstantiated and urged the administration to be more transparent. He specifically requested official hotel occupancy rates and a comparison of international arrival figures for 2024 and 2025.
Morris also questioned the financial viability of the state-owned Manta Lodge, asking whether the property is profitable or operating at a loss.
The challenge has turned the conversation about Tobago’s tourism performance into a pointed political exchange, as the public awaits a detailed response from the Division.
