MINISTER OF SPORT AND YOUTH AFFAIRS PRESENTS $30,000 GRANT TO SCARBOROUGH SECONDARY SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
Phillip Watts, Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs, has presented a $30,000 sponsorship grant to the Scarborough Secondary School Alumni Association. The funding supports the recently concluded Capture the FlagTT competition, an event held in Tobago that has showcased a unique blend of sport, culture, and community. According to the Association President Kevon McKenna, the grant will serve as a crucial component of the tournament’s prize pool, ensuring participants are adequately rewarded. He said, “this financial support will enable the various alumni involved to further enhance their development programs, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.”He added that the investment aims to motivate competitors and contribute to the event’s long-term growth. McKenna acknowledged the significant challenge of rising security costs, which can exceed $50,000 TTD annually. To address this, the association collaborates with stakeholders, including security experts and sponsors, to assess the tournament and implement “meaningful changes and enhancements” each year. This approach, he noted, helps the organisation balance expenses and maintain affordable ticket prices, ensuring an inclusive experience for all.
