June 8, 2024 – Despite rave reviews from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) about Trinidad and Tobago’s macroeconomic outlook, citizens on the ground are not experiencing a corresponding improvement in their daily lives. This is according to Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar, speaking in response to the government’s request to increase the national budget by $2.3 billion.
Persad-Bissessar’s comments highlight a perceived disconnect between official economic reports and the lived reality of citizens, particularly in relation to the government’s fiscal decisions. Her statements contribute to the ongoing national debate about Trinidad and Tobago’s economic performance and its impact on the general population.
