Lie-Detector Testing Legislation Raises Concerns: PSWA to Challenge Miscellaneous Provisions Bill in Trinidad and Tobago

Trinidad and Tobago – June 27, 2024 – President of the Police Social and Welfare Association (PSWA), ASP Gideon Dickson, has expressed concerns over the passage of the Miscellaneous Provisions (Testing and Identification) Bill. Dickson indicated that the association may seek legal advice to challenge this new legislation.
The bill, which was passed with bipartisan support last Friday (June 21, 2024, if “last Friday” refers to the Friday before the 27th), establishes a regulatory framework for polygraph testing, drug testing, and biometric data collection across various public sectors in Trinidad and Tobago. The PSWA’s concerns highlight ongoing debates about the implications of such testing for public sector employees and their rights.
