Keep your receipts and shop smart

Consumer Affairs Division advises keep receipts, check toy labels, read hire purchase agreements when Christmas shopping.

In the spirit of Christmas, it can be easy to overspend on items you do not need, especially with tempting deals and flea markets. To help shoppers, the Consumer Affairs Division has issued some important advice.  First, always keep your receipts as proof of purchase. If an item is faulty or not of merchantable quality, you are entitled to a refund, exchange, repair, or credit note.  When buying toys, be sure to check the labels for age recommendations, safety standards, and small parts. Before signing any Hire Purchase (HP) agreement, read it carefully, and make sure you receive a copy. Guarantees for HP items are the same as cash purchases, meaning you can seek a refund, exchange, or repair if there is a fault. Additionally the Consumer Affairs Division warned that, “No Refund, No Exchange” policies are illegal. Any violations can be reported to the Division at 800-4277 or via their Facebook page.
