Jamaica and Guyana See Incumbents Re-Elected in Landmark Regional Elections

September 4, 2025- The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has secured a historic third consecutive victory in Jamaica’s 2025 general elections, reaffirming its dominance and granting Andrew Holness another term as Prime Minister. The win further solidifies Holness’s status as one of the longest-serving leaders in Jamaica’s modern political history.

Despite navigating challenges such as the global pandemic and ongoing concerns around crime and governance, Holness has maintained broad public support. In his post-election address, he pledged to accelerate national development, with a renewed focus on job creation, education, and security. He also urged Jamaicans to unite in building a stronger, more resilient country.

Meanwhile, in Guyana, President Irfaan Ali was re-elected with over 55% of the vote in the September 1 polls. His People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) retained control of the parliament, winning eight out of ten regions. The newly formed WIN party emerged as the main opposition force.

President Ali now faces mounting expectations to deliver on promises of equitable development, particularly as Guyana’s oil sector continues to drive rapid economic growth.
