The Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago was presented to India’s Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, at a ceremony held at the President’s House in St. Ann’s, Trinidad. Modi is on a two-day visit to Trinidad and Tobago, which began on July 3rd. Modi then delivered his thank you remarks in Hindi, which were subsequently translated into English.According to a release from the Office of the Prime Minister, the visit underscores the strong diplomatic ties between the two nations. It aims to deepen cooperation across key sectors, including finance, education, health, trade, energy, and ICT.On Thursday, July 3rd, Prime Minister Modi arrived in Trinidad and Tobago to full State honours and a colourful cultural welcome at Piarco International Airport. Greeted by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, Modi was celebrated with tassa, African drumming, and dance.His visit also included high-level meetings and a diaspora event in Couva. While many hailed the visit as historic, some Muslim groups raised concerns about human rights and religious freedoms in India.
