IDA Will Support Protest Against Licensing Officers
If the public wants to protest against the licensing officers in Tobago, the Innovative Democratic Patriots stand ready to support. Speaking at a press conference this afternoon, the IDA condemned the actions of the licensing officers in Tobago, which they say are hurting the pockets of Tobagonians and affecting businesses.
With Emancipation Day less than two days away, the political leader of the IDA, Dr. Denise Tsoiafatt-Angus, called on Tobagonians to be inspired and fight for their freedom against licensing officers. Over the past few days, licensing officers have been in Tobago, conducting roadblocks across the island and issuing tickets for vehicle violations. This has caused an uproar among the public, as they have complained about being ticketed for alleged infractions such as tears on seats and scratches on number plates.
Dr Tsoiafatt-Angus noted that people are already struggling to make ends meet, and they are now being bombarded with multiple tickets accompanied by demerits on their licenses. She also questioned the reasoning behind stopping all vehicles, including ambulances. Two ambulances were stopped on Monday for outdated inspections but were let go with a warning.
Dr. Tsoiafatt-Angus called for investigations into the incident and the actions of the licensing officers in Tobago. Meanwhile, she expressed disappointment that the Prime Minister and the Tobago MPs are silent.
