August 19,2025 – The Innovative Democratic Alliance (IDA) has sharply criticized the Tobago House of Assembly’s (THA) decision to cancel this year’s Independence Day Parade, calling it a disappointing but unsurprising move that highlights what the party describes as a pattern of poor leadership.
In a statement, the IDA accused Chief Secretary Farley Augustine of ongoing indecision and inconsistency, claiming his leadership lacks the firmness and clarity Tobagonians need during challenging times.
“This is yet another example of the Chief Secretary’s persistent flip-flopping and failure to lead with conviction,” the party said. “Tobago deserves decisive leadership—not the kind that weakens our island’s spirit and pride.”
The IDA argued that at a time when Tobagonians are seeking reassurance and unity, they are instead being met with what they see as wavering leadership that continues to erode public confidence.
