IDA: rethink changing Coat of Arms

I.D.A. calls for a more consultative approach in changing the coat of arms.

The Innovative Democratic Alliance (IDA) has expressed concern over the government’s proposal to replace Christopher Columbus’s ships with a steelpan on Trinidad and Tobago’s coat of arms. While the move is seen as a step toward decolonization, the IDA argues that it overlooks the need for a comprehensive review of the entire emblem. They suggest that the coat of arms should better reflect the nation’s modern identity, including its cultural and ethnic diversity, technological advancements, and environmental values. The IDA also stresses the importance of public consultation and transparency regarding the financial implications of such changes. They call for a national dialogue to ensure the coat of arms represents all citizens’ unity and aspirations.
