IDA Calls On Candidates To Stop Confusing Electorate About The Roles Of An Mp, And To Stick To Issues, Not Personal Attacks
Scarborough, Tobago – The Innovative Democratic Alliance (IDA) is calling on all candidates to stop confusing the electorate about the role of a Member of Parliament. IDA political leader, Dr. Denise Tsoiafatt-Angus, pointed out that some candidates are making promises they do not have the authority to fulfill as MPs.
Dr. Tsoiafatt-Angus explained that the role of an MP is to serve as a legislator in Parliament, and she urged all candidates to understand the office they are seeking while canvassing. She added that the IDA has decided its candidates, Kaye Trotman and Gerard Balfour, will not seek alliances with any party to gain Cabinet positions. This, she said, is to ensure they remain true advocates for Tobago’s issues. In the meantime, Dr. Tsoiafatt-Angus also reminded all political parties to avoid launching personal attacks on each other. She condemned a comment from PNM Tobago East candidate Ayanna Webster-Roy, who suggested that the TPP’s Tobago East candidate, David Thomas, is not physically fit enough to canvass. Dr. Tsoiafatt-Angus dismissed attempts by some politicians to take cheap shots at each other, instead of offering real solutions to voters on pressing issues such as reducing the high cost of living.
