The “I Love Soca” concert series has been an integral part of Carnival for the past 17 years, hosted by Barcode. As Tobago Carnival gears up for its second year, Barcode’s management has decided to host a special concert in October featuring one of the nation’s beloved calypso artists, David Rudder. In February, Barcode extended an invitation to Rudder to perform, generating significant interest among Tobagonians. However, not long after, Rudder revealed that he has Parkinson’s Disease, which limits his future performance availability.
He has managed to perform at a few concerts since, but this one may be among his last, depending on the progression of the disease. As part of the “I Love Soca” concert series, other artists will also be performing at the event, including two Tobagonians, as mentioned by committee member Davia Chambers.
That weekend was also dubbed the “Weekend of Legends” because the Tobago Performing Arts Company, known as the Tobago Performing Arts Academy (TPAC), will be paying tribute to Calypso Rose. The “I Love Soca” event is scheduled for October 22nd.
