Hearing Ajourned on Firearms Audit Report

The Court of Appeal plans to reconvene in January to consider an appeal by the National Security Council, led by the Prime Minister, challenging a judge’s ruling against presenting the executive summary of a police service firearms registry audit in Parliament. The appeal pertains to former police commissioner Gary Griffith’s complaint about the legality of the committee appointed by the Prime Minister to investigate the police’s firearms department. The judge ruled that while the report could be considered by the Cabinet, it should not be publicized until the Police Service Commission and Commissioner of Police decide how to handle it.
