GRANDMOTHER GIFTED A HOME

During a heartfelt plea at a July town hall meeting in Scarborough, Tobago, grandmother Lydia Robinson appealed to Chief Secretary Farley Augustine to fulfill an earlier promise: providing her with a home to care for her eight grandchildren. Relying solely on her pension, Robinson shared the immense challenge she faced in providing adequate shelter for her large family.

In response to her difficult circumstances, an aged government quarters became accessible. Though the property required significant refurbishment, the current Executive Council sanctioned the necessary renovations through the Homeowners Equal program, managed by the Division of Settlement. This initiative ensured a safe and stable home for Robinson and her grandchildren.

The Executive Council’s assistance extended beyond just the renovations, providing crucial legal provisions that not only secured the family’s immediate housing but also ensured a stable future for them. Robinson expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the newly renovated home she received, marking a significant moment of support for this vulnerable family in Tobago.
