August 8, 2025 – The government’s recent announcement to approve 345 national bursaries, valued at over TT$51 million, is stirring excitement across Trinidad and Tobago. The Minister of Tertiary Education and Skills Training, Senator the Honourable Prof. Prakash Persad, confirmed the bursaries will benefit academically gifted students facing financial challenges.
According to the Ministry of Tertiary Education and Skills Training (MTTEST), 60% of the recipients are female and 40% are male. The National Bursary Programme has a key requirement: recipients must commit to working in Trinidad and Tobago for a specified period after completing their studies—a condition for all successful applicants aimed at retaining local talent. Additionally, students can defer their bursary for up to one year if needed. For Tobago, this program is a vital investment in our youth, ensuring they can access higher education and contribute to our island’s future.
