Minister Ayanna-Webster Roy Attends Gender Equality Meeting In Barbados

Georgetown, GuyanaMinister Ayanna Webster-Roy, responsible for Gender and Child Affairs, alongside Permanent Secretary Vijay Gangapersad from the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services, represented Trinidad and Tobago at the Forty-Sixth Meeting of the Council for Human and Social Development (COHSOD). This pivotal meeting occurred on November 20th and 21st, 2023.

A central agenda item at the COHSOD meeting was the thorough review of the Draft CARICOM Gender Equality Strategy. This crucial initiative garnered significant support from the Caribbean Spotlight Initiative, collaborating with Recipient United Nations (RUNOs), UN Women, and the UNDP. The draft strategy has already undergone extensive regional consultation and validation, incorporating wide-ranging input from across CARICOM member states.

Minister Webster-Roy emphasized the profound importance of this gathering. She highlighted its role in enabling Trinidad and Tobago and other CARICOM nations to establish a unified position on gender equality within the region. The Minister further stated that the successful finalization and implementation of this strategy will mark landmark achievements in advancing gender equality across the Caribbean.
