Minister Ayanna-Webster Roy Attends Gender Equality Meeting In Barbados
Minister Ayanna Webster-Roy, who is responsible for Gender and Child Affairs, along with Permanent Secretary Vijay Gangapersad from the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services, attended the Forty-Sixth Meeting of the Council for Human and Social Development on the 20th and 21st of November 2023.
The meeting reviewed the Draft CARICOM Gender Equality Strategy with the support of the Caribbean Spotlight Initiative through Recipient United Nations (RUNOs), UN Women, and the UNDP. This draft has undergone a process of regional consultation and validation. Minister Webster-Roy highlighted the importance of this meeting, as it provides an opportunity for the country and other CARICOM countries to establish a unified position on gender equality within the region.
She also stated that the finalization and implementation of this strategy will be landmark achievements towards gender equality in the Caribbean.
