March 7, 2025 – Acting and incoming Prime Minister Stuart Young says that protecting women is one of his top priorities. Speaking at the Prime Minister’s Women’s Day Breakfast today, he shared insights into the kind of leader he hopes to be when Dr. Keith Rowley steps down on March 16th. Young, who was selected as Dr. Rowley’s successor by a parliamentary caucus, vowed to implement stronger penalties for domestic violence and provide support for perpetrators to address the root causes of abuse.
He also praised the country’s progress in gender equality, noting that many women have assumed leadership roles in Trinidad and Tobago. Young committed to building on this foundation to ensure women have a safer space to excel, making the protection and empowerment of women a cornerstone of his government.
