Five Tobagonians Have Made It Into the Finals of the National Junior Calypso Monarch
The future of calypso in Tobago shines bright as five talented young calypsonians from the island have secured spots in the National Junior Calypso Monarch Finals. Bishops High School’s D’Ashe Saul, Khaleah Alfred and Koquice Davidson along with Nyah Arnold of Signal Hill Government Primary School are set to grace the Queen’s Park Savannah stage on Monday, February 24th, 2025, in a bid to dethrone reigning Junior Monarch, fellow Tobagonian Nataki Thompson. They will compete against 10 other finalists from Trinidad. The competition, a staple in the country’s rich cultural tradition, continues to be a platform for nurturing young talent and preserving the calypso art form. With five Tobagonians in the finals, Tobago’s calypso legacy remains strong, ensuring that the island’s voice continues to resonate in the national arena.
