Scarborough, Tobago – August 6, 2025 – Former Labour Secretary Max James has issued a strong statement calling for immediate action from the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) over what he described as a potentially serious internal issue. James insists that the THA must publicly declare that it has launched a formal internal investigation into the matter regarding the hiring of a THA Director, Hanif Benjamin, who was recently charged with sexual assault.
James said failure to act transparently could erode public trust and compromise the institution’s credibility. He also called for the Chief Secretary to step down if they are unwilling or unable to address the issue publicly. He is also calling for the Director’s immediate dismissal. His comments underscore growing calls for accountability and swift action in response to serious allegations involving senior public officials in Tobago.
