The Environmental Management Authority (EMA) has denied claims of owing outstanding funds to the Tobago Recycling Resource Initiative (TRRI). In a statement, the EMA clarified its role in supporting sustainable waste management in Tobago through a partnership with the Tobago House of Assembly (THA). The EMA stressed that the financial agreements for the TRRI, including the iCARE recycling project, were made with the THA, not private contractor Recycling Waste & Logistics (RWL). According to the EMA, the funds were disbursed on a reimbursement basis, with the THA submitting invoices for payment. The EMA confirmed that all expenses, including those for the period May to November 2023, have been reimbursed in full, with the last payment made on April 2, 2024. The total contribution to the iCARE project from February 2021 to November 2023 was TT$2.6 million. The EMA reaffirmed its commitment to the TRRI and its role in promoting recycling and waste management in Tobago, with no outstanding payments owed to the THA.
