Current Government Once Declared The Deal “Dead With Glee,” Now Celebrates Its Revival

October 1, 2025- Energy and Energy Affairs Minister Stuart Young has highlighted the political irony surrounding the revival of the Dragon Gas Deal. Speaking on the government’s position, Young reminded the public that when Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and her Cabinet were sworn in, the administration declared the PNM-championed deal “dead with glee.”

Now, just months later, the Prime Minister has announced the deal’s revival, with full U.S. support clearing a critical path forward. Young said the government welcomes any opportunity to advance Trinidad and Tobago’s development, adding that the Dragon Gas project remains central to boosting energy security and strengthening the economy.
