According to official reports, the Division of Education, Research and Technology (DERTech) is addressing the rise in Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease (HFMD) in schools, in collaboration with the Education District Health Unit and the Division of Health, Wellness and Social Protection (DHWSP). DHWSP advises that HFMD is seasonal, with cases expected to increase at this time of year. To assist, the Education District Health Unit will distribute guidelines on managing the disease, emphasising symptoms, hygiene practices, and a safe learning environment. These protocols are also used for other seasonal diseases like impetigo. Schools are advised to reinforce hygiene, including frequent handwashing and sanitising high-touch surfaces. Parents should keep children home if they show symptoms like fever or rashes and seek medical care to prevent complications. The health and safety of students remain the priority, with DERTech providing ongoing support and updates.
