Concerns About Friendship Connector Road

CONCERNS ABOUT FRIENDSHIP CONNECTOR ROAD

Political Leader of the Tobago Council of the PNM, Ancil Dennis, expressed concerns on social media about a multi-million dollar road project at Friendship Estate. He questioned the engineering behind the designs and raised issues such as the absence of Tobago contractors, pricing concerns, and potential threats to historical sites. Dennis warned of an impending disaster unless immediate action is taken.

The project, estimated at $70 million, includes grading, bridge construction, and culvert drain installation in Phase 1. The overall project aims to establish a 2.5 km flexible pavement, Single Carriageway at Friendship Estate. It faced a court-ordered halt earlier this year due to EMA concerns about Certificate of Environmental Clearances, with the injunction now lifted. Recent information suggests that the contractor, California Stuccoo Company Limited, demolished horse stables and a one-hundred-year-old chattel building.
