4.3% of the nation’s children are victims of child labour
Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago – A UNICEF report has revealed that Trinidad and Tobago has nearly 6,000 cases of child labour among children between the ages of five and 17. This pressing issue was addressed by Minister of Labour Stephen Mc Clashie at a stakeholder consultation titled Development of Hazardous Child Labour List and Light Work List, held at the Hilton Conference Centre.
Resel Melville, a program officer at the International Labour Organization (ILO), confirmed that child labour is a real and present issue in Trinidad and Tobago. This consultation aims to define clear guidelines to help combat and reduce the prevalence of child labour, safeguarding the nation’s children.
