Charlotteville Residents and Police Strengthen Partnership to Combat Crime
August 20, 2025 – In a united effort to enhance safety and security, the Executive of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), Tobago Division, hosted a well-attended Police Town Meeting at the Charlotteville Public Library. The meeting brought together local residents and police officials to review crime trends, share concerns, and strengthen collaboration.
During the session, the Division presented a comparative crime analysis for the district, revealing encouraging progress. Serious crimes dropped from 20 cases this time last year to 14 in 2025, while minor offences saw a sharp decline from 90 to just 26. Police praised the community for its cooperation, crediting residents’ vigilance and engagement for the positive shift.
Looking ahead, the Division outlined plans to increase manpower at the Charlotteville Police Station and is working with the Tobago House of Assembly to boost sea patrols and enhance police visibility at ports of entry—key concerns for both crime prevention and tourism safety.
Community members raised several issues, including the need for additional officers, frequent vandalism of jetty lights affecting cruise ship arrivals, night-time safety at sea, and confidentiality when sharing sensitive information with law enforcement.
The TTPS pledged to address these concerns within its scope and encouraged ongoing dialogue. Residents were thanked for their trust and support, while the local police team was commended for its dedicated service to the district.
