Scarborough, Tobago – January 3, 2025 – The State of Emergency (SOE) declared on December 30th has stirred mixed reactions among citizens. While some sectors are hopeful that it will yield positive results, others, like the Tobago Business Chamber, are concerned about the potential for abuse of power by law enforcement officers.
Martin George, Attorney at Law and Chairman of the Tobago Business Chamber, welcomed the SOE but raised serious concerns about the operational process during this period. He shared his perspective in a discussion on Tobago Updates’ Good Morning Tobago programme. His comments highlight the importance of balancing security measures with citizens’ rights and ensuring accountability in law enforcement operations during the State of Emergency in Trinidad and Tobago.
