CEREMONIAL OPENING OF PARLIAMENT

The President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Her Excellency Christine Kangaloo, noted that parliament has faced criticism and cynicism over the past few years. She also shared her own experience when she was an MP for Point-a-Pierre.

President Kangaloo stated that some of the cynicism directed at parliament is deserved, but at times, it is unfair. She assured the population that there is a lot to be proud of when it comes to the parliament. She expressed some of her hopes for the 4th session of the 12th parliament, particularly in relation to addressing the issue of crime.

President Kangaloo also advised the Parliament to consider officially designating the steel pan as our national instrument in the new term.
