Scarborough, Tobago – While Caribbean Airlines (CAL) has been actively expanding its routes throughout the region, this expansion appears to be coming at a cost to Tobago’s tourism arrivals, particularly during traditionally peak periods such as Easter.
Alpha Lorde, President of the Tobago Hotel and Tourism Association (THTA), recently sat down for an exclusive interview with Senior Reporter Kandace Jackson to share critical insights into the current state of the tourism industry in Tobago. This in-depth discussion will be unpacked in a three-part series titled “The Realities of Tobago’s Tourism Industry.”
The first part of this series specifically explores the challenges Tobago faces in attracting the domestic market, a crucial segment often impacted by changes in air travel availability and cost. Lorde’s comments highlight concerns that CAL’s new route strategy, while beneficial for overall regional connectivity, might inadvertently divert domestic visitors away from Tobago during key holiday periods.
This interview series aims to shed light on the complex dynamics influencing Tobago’s tourism sector and the efforts required to maintain its competitiveness.
