Businessman Sues CoP Over Firearm Seizure; Seeks Return of Gun and FUL After Tobago Travel Incident
Businessman sues Police Commissioner for return of seized firearm and license after forgetting ammunition magazine in travel pouch while travelling to Tobago.
June 13, 2024 – Jerome Chung, a businessman, is suing the Commissioner of Police to facilitate the return of his registered firearm and firearm user’s license (FUL). These items were seized after he inadvertently left a magazine with 13 rounds in his travel pouch while traveling to Tobago. The incident occurred on November 24th, 2021.
At a virtual hearing this morning, the Commissioner’s attorneys requested six weeks to respond, a timeframe that Chung’s attorneys agreed to, with the expectation that the items would be returned. This legal challenge highlights the ongoing complexities surrounding firearm user’s licenses and airport security protocols in Trinidad and Tobago.
