Accompanied by Secretaries Tashia Burris and Trevor James, Chief Secretary Farley Augustine attempted to convince the diaspora in New York to contribute towards Tobago’s development. He said fostering a sense of shared identity and connection can help create a stronger bond between Tobagonians, regardless of where they reside.
Augustine acknowledged the challenges posed by limited opportunities in tertiary education, employment, and self-actualization on the island. He noted that navigating these constraints requires meticulous planning, skill enhancement, and adaptability to maximize the available avenues.
While the diaspora is dispersed globally, Augustine emphasised the necessity of intentional connections and meaningful contributions to the homeland, extending beyond material gifts or financial support through services like Western Union.
Meanwhile, Augustine restated his desire for the diaspora to invest in Tobago. This encompasses healthcare, where both experts and volunteers can contribute, as well as health tourism, including palliative care and sports tourism. Additionally, he highlighted the potential for educational investment, given that education plays a significant role in migration dynamics.
