Employees of the BIR and CED to make decision to integrate into the TTRA.
Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago – The Privy Council has ruled that public servants of the Board of Inland Revenue (BIR) and the Customs and Excise Division (CED) are now required to make a definitive choice regarding their integration into the Trinidad and Tobago Revenue Authority (TTRA). The constitutionality of the TTRA itself remains a matter currently before the court.
Approximately 1,200 public servants affected by this significant transition were initially given a three-month period to decide on their employment. Their options included resigning from the public service, accepting a transfer into the TTRA, or being transferred to another public service office. The initial deadline for these critical choices was July 31st, 2023. However, this deadline saw five subsequent extensions, with the last one set for July 31st, 2024.
