Mt. St. George, Tobago – February 9th, 2024 – An incident occurred on Thursday evening [February 8th, 2024] around the bay in Mt. St. George, where the rope pulling a barge towards the Barbados Bay Jetty by a tug boat snapped. This caused the vessel to be tossed by waves and ultimately become stuck on a rock.
The incident took place as the vessels were en route to Barbados Bay. The barge was carrying a cargo of sand and other building materials, destined for Warner’s Concrete Batching Plant in Studley Park.
This event highlights the challenges of marine transport and infrastructure operations in Tobago’s coastal areas. Authorities likely responded to secure the vessel and its cargo, mitigating any potential environmental or navigational hazards.
