Another Airline Not the Answer

Senator Lawrence Hislop agrees that Caribbean Airlines needs to improve its service on the airbridge. However, he believes there is a limit to what can be delivered. Hislop defended CAL’s position to not increase flights due to financial constraints. He said Tobagonians need to understand that CAL cannot cater to a wide cross-section of people in Trinidad and Tobago.

However, Minority Leader Kelvon Morris defended the position of many Tobagonians, who find themselves having to sleep at the Piarco International Airport in an attempt to get a ticket. Morris is not pleased with the situation which led to over sixty flights being cancelled on Sunday and Monday due to dozens of pilots calling in sick. He believes it is symptomatic of CAL’s internal mismanagement of the airline. However, he dismissed the Chief Secretary’s suggestion that now is the time to invite other airlines to service the airbridge. Instead, Senator Hislop called on Tobagonians to be fair in their requests from Caribbean Airlines.
