African Emancipation Day: PM Rowley Announces New Commemoration for August 1st
August 1st to now be known as African Emancipation Day.
April 19, 2024 – Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley today announced a significant change to the nation’s calendar: August 1st will now be commemorated as “African Emancipation Day” instead of simply “Emancipation Day.” He made this announcement at yesterday’s (April 18, 2024) Post Cabinet Media Briefing. This change aims to specifically highlight and honor the African heritage and struggle for freedom within Trinidad and Tobago.
